This effectively future proofs the purchasing organisation as they know that even if they change their Breathing Apparatus mask they will still be able to use the Guardian comms.

Can the Guardian BA Accessory stay attached to the mask during cleaning or decontamination?

Yes, the BA Accessory is IP66 rated which allows it to be washed with the mask or worn during decontamination showers

Why does the Guardian Comms System use the host radio s battery for power when other products use their own batteries?

Having batteries for each comms unit is hard to manage, expensive and degrades the reliability in the field. Changing over a flat radio battery is much easier to do than changing out 2-3 AAA batteries at an incident especially with a gloved hand.

Can I still wear a flash hood and helmet when I am wearing the Guardian BA accessory?

Yes, the BA Accessory seamless design means it doesn t interfere with a flash hood or delay the donning or comfort of the Helmet.

Why do both accessories contain external speakers?

This allows others nearby who may not be using Guardian comms or carrying a radio to hear received messages. This will minimise repeated messages.

I am an Incident commander and carry two portable radios, one for fire ground and one for fire comms when commanding an incident. I often get confused as to which speaker microphone the messages come from. Can the Guardian comms help me with this?

Yes, the Guardian Helmet Accessory has been developed with exactly this scenario in mind. Guardian recommends using a Guardian Speaker Microphone for your fire ground portable radio with a Helmet Accessory. At the incident simply connect the Helmet Accessory to the Guardian Speaker Microphone. When you receive fire ground messages through the accessories receiver transducer the helmet accessory will give you a slight vibration alerting you to a message from your crew on the fire ground.

Can I use the Guardian Comms System while wearing a protective or HAZMAT suit?

Yes, the Guardian Speaker Microphones large front mounted PTT button can be activated through the thick membrane of a protective or HAZMAT suit. This increases the safety of the user as they no longer have to pull their arm through the sleeve of the suit to operate a conventional side button speaker microphone.

Can we do a hot change over of the Guardian BA Accessory at an incident?

Yes, in fact this is one of the real operational benefits of the Guardian comms. Guardian realises not all organisations can afford to fit every member of the BA team with comms. The Guardian BA comms accessory can be removed from one mask and attached to another in seconds. This is in contrast to other products where the comms are integrated. This means all masks would have to be fitted with comms to allow for hot changeovers.

If I go down while wearing the Guardian BA comms and my BA team member isn t wearing BA comms or carrying a radio how will we be able to communicate and get help?

Your team member can disconnect the BA accessory and use the Guardian Speaker Microphone to call for help. Likewise if the BA comms were damaged the user can unplug and revert to using the Guardian Speaker Microphone.

Will I have to purchase more radios specifically for the Guardian Comms?

Not at all, Guardian s Speaker Microphone is dual function. What this means is it can be used for every day tasks such as building inspections and equipment checks, when attending an incident the user simple connects the accessory required.

What happens if a mask is damaged and it needs to be serviced? What will happen to the Guardian BA comms attached to it?

Our comms are not integrated into the mask so simply remove the Guardian BA comms from the damaged mask and attach it to a spare mask for further use.

Can the Guardian accessories plug straight into the radio?

No, and if it was possible you would lose one of the major features of the system which is the Guardian Speaker Microphones large PTT button which gives the user hands free communication. This would also mean that the comms couldn t be used inside a protective or HAZMAT suit.

Why doesn t Guardian use Bluetooth or wireless technology between your comms accessories and Speaker Microphone?

Blue tooth or wireless technology may seem like a good option but there may be a few significant operational problems that you will encounter.

Batteries: Cost, management and awkward field changeovers of AAA batteries with gloved hands.

Linking units: The comms and speaker microphone will need to be linked. This can cause confusion if comms units or speaker microphones are mixed up or units are damaged.

On/Off button: generally these units will have to be turned off an on

Still have questions?
