The system is based on the Guardian Speaker Microphone which connects to the user's existing two-way radio. It can function as a stand-alone speaker microphone for normal everyday operation. The Speaker Microphone has an Accessory Connector which provides an interface with either a Helmet Accessory for use with Protective Helmets or BA Accessory for Mask Communication.

A very large Press to Talk (PTT) button is mounted on the front of the Guardian Speaker Microphone and can be pressed whilst wearing gloves or through the thick membrane of a HAZMAT suit. The large easy to find PTT button can also be actuated by the users forearm or wrist while not letting go of tools or equipment, giving the user hands free communications.
It also provides a convenient interface with Helmet Accessory or BA Accessory.
Interfacing with the user wearing a Helmet or Breathing Apparatus Mask is provided by the appropriate accessory that includes transmit and receive transducers, and an interface cable with female connector that plugs into the Speaker Microphone.
The Guardian Comms System utilises Innotech’s patented bone conduction technology (harnessing voice vibrations through the skull) to send and receive communications. This effectively isolates ambient noise, reducing missed messages and improving transmissions resulting in increased safety and operational efficiency.
Received messages may still be heard even if hearing protection is worn, making it ideal for noisy environments.
Guardian Comms is a versatile system that provides users with the flexibility to select the configuration to suit the application. For example, in a high noise situation where hearing and head protection is required, the Speaker Microphone with Helmet Accessory is ideal.
However, if hands free operation wearing Breathing Apparatus, the BA Accessory is the most suitable.
The Guardian Comms BA Accessory was awarded a Australian International Design Award in 2008
